Mount Pleasant Businesses Come Together to Support Immigrant Neighbors

On Friday, January 30, small businesses across Mount Pleasant are coming together for a one-day, neighborhood-wide effort to support immigrant neighbors and families.

Participating businesses will donate a portion of the day’s sales to Ayuda, a Washington, DC–based nonprofit that provides comprehensive legal, social, and language services to low-income immigrants across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.

This effort emerged organically among Mount Pleasant business owners looking for a practical, locally grounded way to show support during a moment of heightened stress and uncertainty for many immigrant communities. Rather than closing for the day, participating businesses chose to stay open and direct funds raised on Friday toward direct services and support.

Participation varies by business, but all involved are committing to donate from Friday’s sales in support of Ayuda’s work. Residents and visitors are encouraged to eat, shop, and spend locally throughout the day.

Mount Pleasant has long been shaped by immigrants and defined by a strong sense of neighborhood connection. This effort reflects that spirit — neighbors, workers, and small businesses coming together to take tangible action at a local level.
